I was just thinking it might be cool if our characters celebrated certain holidays IC as they happen in real life -- ie Christmas, Valentine's Day, perhaps a Memorial Day of sorts.
Comments anyone?

I refuse to celebrate any holidays IC that I would not celebrate out of character. Therefore, I will not celebrate Memorial Day. Victoria Day however, I would be all up ons.

As I said, 'perhaps a Memorial Day of sorts'. I realized that not all of us are American. There is also the addition issue of three different governments IC -- which would all likely have different days of their own, be it to honor their armed forces, celebrate independence/major turning point in history, etc. (By the last, I mean holidays like France's early July national holiday that commemorates the storming of the Bastille.)
To clarify regarding an IC Memorial Day of sorts: I'm suggesting something along the lines of a day honoring the billions of civilians and military personnel lost in the move to this dimension.

Wait wait wait...Why would our characters celebrate stuff that happen centuries ago? Earth no longer exists right? Our characters are in a completely different world. They'd have their own set of holidays and celebrations, not ours.
Don't get me wrong I did like the idea but I just don't think they'd celebrate stuff like Iindependence day, they mind have their own versions of it though.

When I said that I don't celebrate Memorial Day, but I do celebrate Victoria Day, it was a joke. Victoria Day is Canada's long weekend in May that coincides with America's Memorial Day. It's just another excuse to drink.
Yup.
And while Independence Day for the United States may not be relevent, Liberation Day for Pangea might exist. Most of our Characters are Christian, so Easter and Christmas are still place alright. I don't think we'd celebrate Thanksgiving or Halloween (not really a Holiday).
It's probably best to just not confuse anything and celebrate everything OOC and not IC.

Unless we clearly make up our IC holidays for good reasons that could also happen to coincide with OOC holidays. Pangea Liberation Day could be 4th of July, and a Memorial Day for all those who died in fleeing the galaxy makes perfect sense. Religious holidays are easy to do. Actually, to be easy, if your characters want to celebrate a holiday, just make one up to celebrate.
